That very day, they wrote "Peace is My Last Gift to You" along with fellow songwriter, Jon Cole. This text from John's gospel is included in the Maundy Thursday service in the Book of Common Prayer where it is called "An Anthem for the Washing of Feet." Traditionally this is a text that choirs sing while ministers wash their parishioners' feet. Drawing inspiration from the harmony structures and musical stylings of Crosby, Stills, and Nash, the ending song took on life as a folk ballad. The band Liturgical Folk ended up covering it on their album "Crumbs" in 2018, but Justin and Paul always desired to record their own version of the song. In January of 2024, this became a reality as they recorded it in Paul’s home studio and released it in March of 2024. This accompanying video was done in a spirit of collaboration — two churches and musicians coming together to advance the arts in the Church and the message of the love and hope of Christ in the world. We hope this video is a blessing to you and look forward to more Saint Michael arts collaborations in the future!

Justin Philip Brooks | Praise To The Lord, The Almighty | Mountain Dulcimer
First appearing in the 19th century on the front porches of Scotch-Irish immigrants in the hills of Appalachia, the mountain dulcimer is a uniquely American instrument. Part of the zither family, the word "dulcimer" comes from the Greek, meaning "sweet song". This particular mountain dulcimer I'm playing is a 1991 McSpadden (Mountain View, AR), and belonged to my grandmother-in-law, Marion Taylor. "Praise To The Lord, The Almighty" is one of my favorite hymns. Written in 1680 by Joachim Neander, the melody is fittingly based on a folk tune. I hope you enjoy this arrangement and may it bring you peace. Justin Philip Brooks | Specter (Official Video)
"Specter", an original song, performed by Justin Philip Brooks. Video by Casey Reid http://justinphilipbrooks.com (c) 2016 Elgie Street Music You're like a specter floating through my halls and I don't know what to do You're like a specter i can see right through the ghost of the former you I don't expect her to come around here no more like she used to With all these conjectures and nameless fears I don't know who I'm talking to Come back to life for me I'll lay mine down for you I'm just a talker to a spirit walker I have trouble getting through The darkness surrounds but a light can be found If you change your point of view Come back to life for me I'll lay mine down for you (c) 2016 Elgie Street Music (ASCAP)
